Intensive Pan-Type Color Mixer Machines
NextGen Engineering Works manufactures high-efficiency pan-type color mixers designed specifically for blending synthetic iron oxide pigments, grey or white cement, silica sand, and fine aggregates. Built with high-reduction oil bath gearboxes and adjustable spring-loaded scrapers, our mixers deliver streak-free, vibrant color facing mixes in under 4 minutes.
The Science of Iron Oxide Pigment Blending
In two-layer interlocking paver blocks, the top 10–12 mm "wearing layer" dictates the visual quality, weathering resistance, and customer acceptance of the final pavement. Synthetic iron oxide pigments have extremely fine particle sizes (sub-micron scale) that readily form dry clumps if mixed in conventional tilting drum concrete mixers.
A pan mixer utilizes forced planetary shearing action. As the scraper blades sweep through the pan at calibrated velocity, pigment grains are forcefully sheared against fine silica sand, coating every aggregate particle uniformly with colored cement paste. The result is deep, consistent color saturation free from unsightly white or yellow streaks.
Fabricated Color Mixer Units
150 Kg Pan Color Mixer
Standard production pan mixer mounted on elevated structural channel stands for easy wheelbarrow or tray discharge.
Adjustable Scraper Assembly
Spring-damped scraper arms that maintain continuous contact with pan floor and sidewalls without blade jamming.
Heavy Gearbox Transmission
High-ratio reduction gearbox designed to handle dense, stiff mortar pastes without motor stalling or belt slippage.
Applications in Modern Tile & Paver Plants
- Designer Paver Block Facing: Producing red, yellow, grey, black, and brown top-layer mortars for interlocking paver moulds.
- Chequered Floor Tile Mixes: Blending white cement with marble dust and colored pigments for non-slip outdoor tiles.
- Terrazzo Slabs & Decorative Precast: Intensive incorporation of colored aggregates and stone chips into mineral binders.
- Plaster & Grouts: Batch mixing of colored exterior jointing grouts and specialized masonry mortars.
Key Engineering Features
- Heavy Steel Construction: High-rigidity ISMC channel base eliminates vibration transfer to workshop flooring.
- Zero Dead-Zone Geometry: Triple scraper arms sweep both the bottom floor, inner cone, and outer vertical rim simultaneously.
- Low-Maintenance Bushings: Heavy-duty sealed bearing housings protected by multi-lip dust seals against abrasive silica ingress.
- Operator Safety Guard: Heavy wire-mesh top safety grille prevents hand entry into the rotating mixing zone while allowing easy pigment addition.

Color Mixer FAQ
Tilting drum mixers rely on gravity tumbling. Fine synthetic oxide pigments tend to ball up and stick to wet drum walls rather than dispersing through the sand. A forced-action pan mixer mechanically shears the paste against the bottom plate, ensuring 100% pigment breakdown and streak-free color.
For best dispersion: 1. Add silica sand and dry oxide pigment; 2. Run for 60 seconds to dry-blend; 3. Add cement and blend for 30 seconds; 4. Gradually add measured water and chemical hardener while mixing until a smooth, workable mortar is formed.
Our scraper tips are made from hardened wear-resistant steel. They feature elongated slotted mounting holes allowing operators to adjust the floor gap every 2–3 months as wear occurs. Replacement scraper shoes are readily available from NextGen stock.
Check the gearbox oil level monthly and perform a complete gear oil flush (EP-90 or EP-140 gear oil) after the first 200 operating hours, and once every 6 months thereafter.
